The New Coastal Style

So last weekend I took what was likely my last trip to the beach for this summer. (Cue clichéd despondent movie soundtrack). I took a 4-day trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, to an old family condo. While the design there has certainly improved over the years (its dark wood-paneled walls are now bright pastels), there is still a bit too much wicker and pink for my taste! (If you tilt your head just right, you can see Sophia Patrillo sitting on the sofa with Dorothy and Blanche.) So I long to give it yet another makeover, this time with a simple, clean aesthetic and some fresh furniture that doesn’t squeak with every move. To imagine a good coastal space, just think of your personal style and give it a healthy dose of comfort: linens for beds and curtains, soft cotton fabrics, aged wood furniture, natural plants or organics around and a bright color palette of washed whites, watery blues and calming neutrals. Below are some pictures to inspire you, so hurry before the sun sets on summertime!
