Forecasting Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Design Trends
Categories: Trend Watch
What has the high-end fashion industry rung in for 2011? We look to designers such as Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Burberry and Versace for the answers. And I must admit, they certainly have not let us down! It’s all about the preservation of our past. With shows like That 70’s Show and Mad Men, it’s hard to resist!
In previous years, we’ve worn clothing reminiscent of the 1920’s and 1930’s. This year it’s all about the 1970’s! Both the bohemian and sophisticated looks from the 70’s have already found their way onto the runway! It’s all about the earthy, natural 70’s color scheme and delicate yet bountiful silhouettes. During the day, expect to see wide-leg, high waisted pants paired with skinny, simple belts and platform, wooden heels, silk blouses with billowing sleeves and printed dresses. After sundown, the 70’s fashionista turns into the perfectly dressed socialite! The disco inspired shimmering fabrics, such as satin and silk, will be seen either eloquently fitted along the silhouette or draped long and beautifully along the body.

But, we must not forget the fascination with early 1960’s fashion! This trend will continue into 2011. It’s time to embrace longer hemlines, higher necklines, pleats, and fuller silhouettes! Now, of course you know there will be all types of twists! We’ll see these “guidelines” paired with sexy slits in the back, blazers, high heels and sheer blouses. The bohemian look by day and the sophisticated look by night along with the early 1960’s dress all pair perfectly with Charles Luck’s soon-to-be-published 2011-revival Perspective trend.

It’s time to announce that the military trend is moving its way out. Next fashion trend on the list: make way for biker chic! We’ll see many forms of the new statement piece of this trend, the biker jacket. That’s right! We’ll see worn, neutral colored leather variegated quilting and padding, offering a bit of excitement and edginess with zipped sleeves and pockets in pants, skirts and jackets. Looking forward to these fashion trends!
